The team

The purpose of the Global Tribe Cloud is to build and run the target infrastructure platform in a (private) cloud delivery model. This delivery model is based on multi-tenant, self-service, pay-per-use capabilities for application DevOps teams as defined in the One Way of Working.

Tribe Cloud comprises five Global Areas:

  • Infrastructure as a Service
  • Data Services
  • Platform as a Service
  • Cloud API Platform
  • Onboarding and Customer Experience

DBaaS is part of the Area Data Services and is all about delivering multi-tenant database services to DevOps teams of ING worldwide. The DBaaS squads, working in different countries, take responsibility for the full life-cycle of the service from inception through to development, launch & support.

Job description

With your pragmatic and delivery-oriented professional attitude, you put your background and experience to good use as Product Owner for DBaaS.

Together with the other Product Owners for DBaaS you set the goals and targets, you determine the technical strategy with the Lead Architect and execute this strategy with your Engineers. You take ownership for the agreed solution ensuring that solutions delivered meet customer and business needs whilst adhering to legal, risk and compliance requirements of the bank.

You will be responsible for two squads:

DBaaS API squad

Our API is the front door of our service. This team connects our Exadata and the Oracle software to our IPC Cloud Portal.

The goal of this team is to:

  • Maintain and update API hardware and software;
  • Develop new features that exposes our Oracle features to our consumers via our Cloud Portal.

Our strategy is to expose our DBaaS service directly via our API to our consumers. This is a big change for our team in way of working and mindset. This will lead that DBaaS and the API team are in the lead in delivering our service to the consumers. This means we need to ensure that our API is connected to all relevant API’s and systems (f.e. CMDB, Billing, NetworkAPI, etc) and have clear communication and documentation.

OEM / monitoring squad

Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) is used by our own DBaaS teams for monitoring and alerting of our hardware and databases, as well by our consumers for monitoring and alerting for their PDBs.

The goal of this team is to maintain and update OEM and be risk compliant. When requested new features or reports are created in OEM for our stakeholders.

Our strategy is to be less dependent for observability and alerting on one specific tool. We want to deliver our observability and alerting capabilities via other available (standardized tools available within ING to enable our consumers with all information in one overview for example. This is a big change for our team in way of working and mindset. As Product Owner you need to guide the team in the right direction.

Key responsibilities

Together with a team of 40 Engineers in 5 squads, 3 other Product Owners, Architects, ITAL, you as Product Owner are responsible for further improving Oracle DBaaS service: increase stability, improve service characteristics, and deliver new features for our customers and engineers.

  • Providing clarity to the teams with clear goals;
  • Collaborate with other product owners to create a clear and achievable roadmap;
  • Manage risk on the services you provide;
  • Manage the delivery roadmap of the service with a cross-border team that is located in The Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Belgium and India; and possibly other countries in the future.
  • Take ownership of the product backlog by creating user stories and features with business value identified on each item;
  • Keep the stakeholders informed on the Product Roadmap and the progress of the feature delivery and upcoming releases;
  • Promote a clear product vision which has the customer as the focus, while maintaining a standardized solution.
  • Contribute to a clear cloud vision and roadmap for the Global Cloud Tribe
  • Look beyond your Area to continue to improve the Cloud Tribe and ING organization

How to succeed

You are an energetic and proactive Product Owner with a true passion for IT and a positive “Do it-Try it-Fix it” mentality. You have good understanding of Software Engineering and CI/CD. You are a natural team player who forms relationships based on social skills rather than hierarchical structure. You can easily switch context from engineers to auditors to management.

  • Experience as a Product Owner/ Agile Business Analyst within a highly complex technology based agile environment
  • Experience in analysis, strong documentation skills and good ability to break down requirements into epics and user stories
  • An inspiring and energetic passion in your presentations to and interactions with various stakeholders
  • Previous experience working in mature agile environments
  • A basic understanding of relevant technology languages and applications
  • Higher education in (Information) Technology or work experience that demonstrates you operate on this level
  • Excellent command of English language. Dutch language is an advantage but not a requirement
  • A willingness to travel internationally once in a couple weeks
